Under God’s Umbrella

Uncategorized

“That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught.”

-John 14:27 (The Message)

If you’re like any human that has ever step foot on this Earth, you must then know that life is not the easiest, and can be really difficult at times. You have financial instability, overwhelming school work, unfaithful friends and lovers, heartbreaks, addictions, sickness, and everything else that is named in the book.

Now think about what or who you go to in times like these. Yes, friends and family are good to go to for advice and comfort, but what if they aren’t available or able to help you with a specific problem that you are facing in your life? They might just be in the same boat as you! You need someone who is holding the umbrella in your life storms. You need someone even higher and more powerful.

God offers us peace and protection , but that does not mean that troubling times aren’t promised. Yes, we can be the most devoted follower of Christ, but still have a raging storm around us! These storms are to remind you of your own helplessness and to remind you that you have someone mighty that wants you to recognize that he is above all and he is able to guide you through it all.

God provides us with a peace that no one can ever be capable of offering us. His peace is everlasting and is already in front of our faces and under our noses, all we have to do is reach out and take it. Pray that God fills you with his spirit of peace in the the storm that you are facing today. Make God the one holding your umbrella in this storm today, tomorrow, and forever more.

You don’t have to worry any more.

God has you under his umbrella.

Being Blinded by our Human Desires

Uncategorized

“The boys grew up. Esau became an expert hunter, an outdoorsman. Jacob was a quiet man preferring life indoors among the tents. Isaac loved Esau because he loved his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.

One day Jacob was cooking a stew. Esau came in from the field, starved. Esau said to Jacob, “Give me some of that red stew—I’m starved!” That’s how he came to be called Edom (Red).

Jacob said, “Make me a trade: my stew for your rights as the firstborn.”

Esau said, “I’m starving! What good is a birthright if I’m dead?”

Jacob said, “First, swear to me.” And he did it. On oath Esau traded away his rights as the firstborn. Jacob gave him bread and the stew of lentils. He ate and drank, got up and left. That’s how Esau shrugged off his rights as the firstborn.”

-Genesis 25:27-34 (The Message)

I encourage you to read this passage over once more. Okay, did you do it? Okay, now do it once more. Read this until you truly understand and until it starts resonating deep within your spirit. It took me a couple of reads to truly understand the point of this story. It’s very powerful once your mind grasps the meaning behind what is truly going on behind this story.

To summarize what happened here, Esau did something very foolish and gave up his birthright to satisfy a temporary satisfaction, in which case is the lentil stew that Jacob was preparing for supper. Our lives can reflect Esau’s actions in such a deep and realistic level if you think about it. Many times, we become blinded to the consequences that may rise up down the road once we stand face to face with our fleshly desires.

Once a temptation blocks our passageway in our walk of righteousness, we can be easily drawn in and deviate from our path, our main focus, and goal: Having an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and being able to enter the Kingdom of God! As we go through our daily walk, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide your footsteps, so you don’t stray away from your path. Meditate on God, and make him the center of your universe; draw near to him and his word.

Don’t be foolish like Esau and fall for a fleeting and temporary satisfaction, rather, think about how it may affect your walk with Christ and how it may or may not benefit you as you try to live a Godly life and obey his good law!

By Faith and Faith Alone

Uncategorized

“By an act of faith, Moses’ parents hid him away for three months after his birth. They saw the child’s beauty, and they braved the king’s decree.

By faith, Moses, when grown, refused the privileges of the Egyptian royal house. He chose a hard life with God’s people rather than an opportunistic soft life of sin with the oppressors. He valued suffering in the Messiah’s camp far greater than Egyptian wealth because he was looking ahead, anticipating the payoff. By an act of faith, he turned his heel on Egypt, indifferent to the king’s blind rage. He had his eye on the One no eye can see, and kept right on going. By an act of faith, he kept the Passover Feast and sprinkled Passover blood on each house so that the destroyer of the firstborn wouldn’t touch them.

By an act of faith, Israel walked through the Red Sea on dry ground. The Egyptians tried it and drowned.”

 -Hebrews 11:23-29 (The Message)

Going through our lives being unsure of our future and what is down the road can be very unsettling. The bible teaches us of many scenarios in which men and women of God did not fear the unknown, for they had someone much greater by their side and overruling their lives.

God calls us out to live by faith, and that is exactly what Moses did in this passage. No matter his past, he still remained focused and had had his eyes set on the one that couldn’t be seen. With that leap of faith, God blessed him abundantly and made him to be the leader of the Israelite’s and led them to freedom!

It’s not easy, I know. But think about how we have someone so mighty and powerful watching out for us. Someone who let their son die so that you may have life. How can we not pour out our lives for the most romantic God? A God who loves us so much, that he gives us new air to fill our lungs each and every day! Think about all the times that God has saved you, over and over again. You’re alive and well right now because of his grace.

We see so much proof of his outpouring love and mercy everyday, why should we even question giving over our lives completely to him? Let him take over your life and show you beauty you’ve never seen before. You are a child of the most high King and he has such great plans for your life!

Live by faith, and see what He can do for you!

A New Found Hope for a New Year

Uncategorized

Ah, here we are. We’ve made it to a new year and maybe to some, a new life. I’m so happy to be alive and standing right now. New Year’s Eve was a magical event that played out right in my home. It was a time that was so dear and special to me because I was surrounded with my intermediate family and my boyfriend. We sat there with our tummies full, because we ate like Kings, and told each other what we felt like we learned and accomplished in the past year of 2014. We also spoke of our dreams and hopes for bettering ourselves and our lives for the new year of 2015.

Everyone had such diverse experiences and I almost choked on my words when it came to my turn, because I felt so emotional about what happened this past year. A lot of ups and a lot of downs, but I feel like I have become such a stronger person in my faith and in my character. I found a new hope that I would carry on and continue in this new year and every year after that. Once you have a grasp of life and your presence here on Earth, and just how powerful it is, you can never let that go. Our feet are planted on this Earth for a unique and specific reason for each and everyone, and we are meant to breathe in this life to it’s fullest. God is such a loving God, and he has blessed us with far more than we can even fathom.

To be able to take in every single moment, capture every special memory, and smile with the biggest gum-showing grin is what we were meant to do. That is what I thrive to do this year; to capture my special moments by developing  and growing in my Photography, to never take anything for granted, to meet someone new everyday and to love like I’ve never loved before.

And as the ball dropped and we all gathered around the living room counting down from “5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1”, I looked at every expression on every face. I felt the happiness and joy vibrate off the walls of the room, and I gave a sparkling peach juice toast to my dear boyfriend and leaned in for my first New Years kiss ever.

I couldn’t have asked for a different way in celebrating New Years, or a different set of people to spend it with.

So let’s raise our glasses and here’s a toast, 2015, We’re ready for you.
